The Faculty of Engineering & Applied Sciences was recently assessed in its electronics research as 5* and in its teaching quality as 24 (in both cases the highest score possible). The university maintains close links with industry through undergraduate courses and collaborative research and consultancy. There are several high-tech industrial companies directly associated with the department, being offshoots of its leading research groups. Some engineers from industry provide specialist teaching to support undergraduate courses from a commercial viewpoint.
